Green Revolution Exhibition at Denison University
Denison Museum’s new exhibition may be called “Green Revolution,” but it is not limited to one color on the spectrum. Green Revolution, designed by the Smithsonian Institute to reflect local materials, creativity and workmanship, is a series of “eco-zibits” conceived, designed, assembled, and interpreted by a diverse team of students, faculty and staff. The exhibition is open from Thursday, Feb. 20, to Saturday, May 17. The opening reception is Thursday, Feb. 27, from 4:30 to 7 p.m. at the Denison Museum (240 West Broadway). The museum is free and open to the public and is open Monday through Saturday from noon to 5 p.m. with extended hours on Thursdays until 7 p.m. For more information, contact Sarah Baker at 740-587-8689 or visit www.denison.edu.
“We recognize the potential of Green Revolution to expand our repertoire, to foster collaboration across liberal arts disciplines and to engage more diverse audiences.” says Sherry Harlacher, director of the Denison Museum.
The museum has partnered with The Works museum in Newark and with Denison’s Spectrum Series with its campus-wide theme “Real Utopias: From Dreams to Practice,” as well as the departments of studio art and education and with campus groups Denison Chemical Society, Denison Science and Art Interest Group, the Homestead, Denison libraries and the Spectrum Series with its campus-wide theme “Real Utopias: From Dreams to Practice,” to create an exhibit that promotes local environmental awareness and accountability through multidisciplinary hands-on experiences and community partnerships.
Jeremy King, sustainability coordinator at Denison said, “Being a joint venture by The Works and the Denison Museum really helps to highlight the fact that environmental issues truly are community issues and require innovation and cooperation to address.”
Denison Museum is committed to the transformative power of liberal arts learning. The Museum strives to provide inclusive and interdisciplinary museum- based learning experiences that reach all students and strengthen community engagement.
This version of Green Revolution is based on an exhibition originally created by the Museum of Science and Industry, Chicago and its Black Creativity Council and is made available by Smithsonian Institution Traveling Service.
