SUMMARY:Dance explores the healing power of grief with 'EX/BODY: wake\, dam\, steel'
DESCRIPTION:Denison University's Department of Dance welcomes critically-acclaimed Chicago choreographer and Denison Alum Molly Shanahan presenting "EX/BODY: wake\, dam\, steel\," the current dance project from Shanahan's dance company Molly Shanahan/Mad Shak.\n"EX/BODY: wake\, dam\, steel" a 50-minute work for five dancers is created from the artists' exploration of transformative movement potential hidden within the subtle sensations born of trauma. Rather than presenting a narrative depiction or representation of trauma\, the dancers give their attention to movement buried in stuck places in the body. Their quest is a work that invites transformation through the incorporation of discarded identities\, the healing power of grief\, and a virtuosity of compassion in performance.\n\nShanahan's company Molly Shanahan/Mad Shak is marking their 25th year of creating work through a "process-oriented approach to movement art has influenced a passel of young dancers in Chicago. Discarding the rules of modern dance\, Shanahan puts movement under the microscope\, cultivating gorgeous organic phrases by observing motion at the atomic level." (New City Stage) \n\nThe events are free and open to the public\, however tickets are required. Find tickets at: denison.edu/eisner
