DESCRIPTION:The Ronneberg Lecture Series welcomes geologist John Dolson presenting "Unleashing Your Geosciences Mojo: The Importance of Volunteering to Your Career Growth." Dolton will present examples from two projects: the Friends of Dinosaur Ridge in Denver\, Colo.\, and the UNESCO Whale Valley World Heritage project. Both projects involved a large number of geoscientists\, many of whom worked in the petroleum industry. According to Dolson\, "One of the really important lessons learned by any successful volunteer is that 'people don't have to work with you if it isn't enjoyable.' Learning to work with other volunteers is not only fun and rewarding\, but taxes your leadership skills and forces you to hone listening skills and the ability to lead collaboratively." A Q&A and formal discussion will follow the talk. Dolson is the grandson of Dr. Conrad E. Ronneberg\, a professor of chemistry at Denison University\, who endowed the Ronneberg Lectureship in 1981 as a means to bring to campus outstanding scientists to lecture on a diverse range of topics. He is the senior exploration advisor for Delonex Energy in London\; a director in his own company\, DSP Geosciences and Associates\; and an adjunct professor at the University of Miami in Florida.
