SUMMARY:Denison: 'What Are We Asking When We Ask Why?'
DESCRIPTION:A lot of our intellectual life is taken up with the pursuit of "why questions\," such as "Why is Donald Trump so popular? Why is the economy so weak?" We tend to know an answer when we see it -- but not always. In his talk\, Skow explores the ways that philosophy is supposed to help us find these answers. The author of two books\, "Objective Becoming" and "Reasons Why\," Skow received his bachelor of arts from Oberlin College and his doctorate from New York University. Skow's visit is part of The Lisska Center's Research Table program\, designed to enrich intellectual life on Denison's campus. The research tables bring together faculty members from across the college and/or other institutions to explore an interdisciplinary topic. The mission of Denison's Lisska Center for Scholarly Engagement is to promote intellectual dialogue and scholarly excellence on campus.
