DESCRIPTION:Dr. Bob Malcuit\, Professor Emeritus\, Geosciences Department\, Denison University - History of the last one million years in Licking County and adjacent areas - Over the past million years there have been at least four major ice advances (glaciations) on the Midwest of the United States.  All four have had significant effects on Ohio but the most recent three have had a major impact on the Granville area.  A lasting legacy of the ice ages are the drainage changes caused by the birth and demise of large lakes of water that were ponded in front of the ice sheets as they progressed southward.  The Ohio River\, the Muskingum River\, the Licking River and even Raccoon Creek are the result of the drainage changes associated with the glacial history of the area.
