DESCRIPTION:The Denison Singers present a celebratory concert\, ?The Denison Singers at 54\,? under the direction of Emeritus Faculty William Osborne at 1:30 p.m. on Sunday\, June 28\, at Swasey Chapel (200 Chapel Drive). The concert is free and open to the public. For more information visit Denison.edu. In their 590th performance\, the Denison Singers present an eclectic program of literature from past and present. Included are works by Benjamin Britten\, Cecil Effinger\, Dieterich Buxtehude\, Paul Halley\, Orlando Gibbons and Thomas Morley. Also featured are first performances of ?The Lobster Quadrille? by former Denison faculty member William Stevens\; ?Let There Be Light? by Clifford Davis\, a member of the Denison class of 1972\; and ?Swedish Meatballs? by R. Michael Daugherty\, a member of the Denison class of 1971. Both Davis and Daugherty also are members of the Denison Singers. The Denison Singers are conducted by the group?s founder and only leader\, Distinguished Professor of Fine Arts Emeritus William Osborne. The Denison Singers were formed In September 1961\, more than a half century ago. They appeared often on campus and toured regularly\, eventually performing in 24 states and the District of Columbia. In addition\, the Singers went on a dozen foreign tours across much of Europe\, from the Netherlands to Greece\, Portugal to Russia\, as well as to Venezuela. The ensemble was formally disbanded upon Osborne?s retirement in 2003\, however the group lives on through periodic reunions.
