Denison: 'Education for a World in Motion'
The Department of Educational Studies welcomes Barbara Finkelstein, professor emerita at the University of Maryland College Park, presenting “Education for a World in Motion: Transcending Time and Space” at 2:45 p.m. on Friday, Feb. 24, in Knobel Hall at the Burton D. The founding director of the International Center for Transcultural Education at the University of Maryland, Finkelstein has received an array of prestigious awards and fellowships for work that examines the historical and transcultural dimensions of education policies and processes as they have impinged on the lives of children, youth, minority and other groups, and shaped the quality of education available to them. She has published and lectured extensively on the role of teachers as cultural mediators, the uses of literacy among minority groups, the shape of diversity policies in various educational settings and transcultural contours of curriculum policies and instructional materials.
