The Department of Cinema presents an experimental film symposium titled “The New Alchemists,” showcasing works by visiting filmmakers Terra Long from Toronto, Ontario; Mike Rollo from Regina Saskatchewan; and Rhayne Vermette from Winnipeg, Manitoba. Kyath Battie, visiting assistant professor of cinema at Denison, will moderate discussion during the event. This event will showcase works from filmmakers dedicated to the intimate and complex processes of analogue film and chemistry, exploring deeper ways in which memory, time and spatial geographics can be abstract, manipulated, or simply beautiful and spectacular.
