The Women’s and Gender Studies Film Festival presents a screening of the documentary “AWOL,” moderated by Denison professors Sheilah Restack and Jennifer Rokakis. Joey is in search of direction in her small town. A visit to an army recruiting office appears to provide a path, but when she meets and falls in love with Rayna that path diverges in ways that neither woman anticipates. “AWOL” provides a nuanced portrait of a downwardly mobile “heartland” Caucasian USA too seldom portrayed in movies. The film festival takes place at 7 p.m. on Tuesday evenings from March 13 to April 24, in Slayter Auditorium. The films include: “Radio Kobani” on March 13, “After Tiller” on March 27, “As I Open My Eyes” on April 3, “The Uncondemned” on April 10, “The Apology” on April 17, and “AWOL” on April 24.
