Denison: Homestead 40th Anniversary
The Homestead 40th Anniversary Festival presents “Welcome to the Homestead: The Ever-evolving Experiment,” an exhibition opening at the Denison Museum. The exhibit features a simulation of an original Homestead cabin and stories, photos and original documents from the Homestead archives. It will be on display from Friday, April 7, to Friday, May 12. The museum is open from noon to 5 p.m., Monday to Friday. The museum opening is part of a three day festival to celebrate the Homestead’s 40th anniversary. Other events include “Creation and Evolution: Homestead Stories from 1977 and Today” from 4:30 to 6:30 p.m. on Thursday, April 6, in Knobel Hall in the Burton D. Morgan Center; “When We Left our Home(stead): Life Choices, Careers, Professions” from 3:30 to 4:45 p.m. on Friday, April 7, at the Barney Davis Hall Boardroom and “Forty Years and Counting: Festivities at the Homestead” from noon to 5 p.m. on Saturday, April 8, at the Homestead. The Homestead is a student residential option based on sustainable technologies, simplicity in life choices, consciousness about energy consumption and food production, and community decision making. The Homestead is a unique community that exemplifies Denison’s mission as a liberal arts college.
