The Center for Women and Gender Action presents a poetic activism workshop with Gabrielle Civil titled “Activating Poetic Activism.” Civil, a black feminist performance artist and poet, is the Laura C. Harris Scholar-in-Residence in Women’s and Gender Studies at Denison. Civil has performed her poetry widely and conducted poetry and writing workshops in the U.S., Zimbabwe, Mexico and more. She has guest-edited special issues of Aster(ix) and Obsidian: Literature & Arts in the African Diaspora and has contributed to Small Axe, The Third Rail, Art21, Two Lines, Dislocate and Something on Paper. Her memoir in performance art, “Swallow the Fish,” was named by Entropy as a “Best Non-Fiction Book of 2017.”
