Do you or someone you love play video games? Do you wonder what effect, if any, playing these games might have? As video game playing is growing in popularity across all ages of the population, these questions are becoming increasingly relevant. A lecture, "Video Games as a Tool to Train Perception and Attention," by Rebecca Achtman will take place at 4:30 p.m. on Thursday, Oct. 24, at the lecture hall, room 115, of Denison University’s Burton D. Morgan Center (150 Ridge Road). The event, sponsored by the psychology department, is free and open to the public. For more information, contact Jill Uland at 740-587-6338 or visit www.denison.edu.
Achtman will discuss her research, which demonstrates that individuals who play action video games show superior performance compared to their non-game playing peers. She will explore how video games are changing the way we see and interact with the world.
Achtman is a visiting assistant professor in the Department of Psychology at Denison University. Her research combines behavioral and brain imaging approaches to study brain plasticity. She is interested in how we learn and how the brain changes with experience.
