The Works: Ohio Center for History, Art & Technology, in partnership with the Newark Heath Airport, welcomes the Youth Aviation Adventure program to Licking County. This one-day program sponsored by The Boeing Company and Legacy Strategies, LLC will be held on Saturday, October 5 from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. and introduce youth, 12 -18 years of age, to all facets of aviation.
For just $5 per person, youth spend the morning interacting with pilots and Boeing engineering professionals while progressing through hands-on learning stations held at the Newark-Heath Airport and The Works. Stations include; an introduction of how jet and piston engines work, protocol for pre-flight aircraft checks, exploration of the differences between helicopter wing types, airplane approach and landing functions, and airport emergency equipment.
Participants then travel to The Works in the afternoon to build their own FPG 9 Glider to take to the air in friendly competitions and discuss career opportunities within the field of aviation. Engineers from Boeing will also announce the company's 2014 STEMfest! Aeronautics Challenge at the conclusion of the program.
Each YAA program participant receives a t-shirt, YAA patch, flight maps, lunch during the event, and is automatically registered to win a free introductory flight lesson. Although Scout affiliation is not required, the YAA Program fulfills all the requirements for the Boy Scout Aviation Merit Badge and is sanctioned by the Girl Scouts of America.
Space is limited and pre-registration is required. For complete YAA details and to register, visit attheworks.org and click on “EVENTS” or call 740-349-9277.
