Artist Talk and Opening Reception: 'The World is Round'
Denison Art Space in Newark holds an artist talk and opening reception for "The World is Round" a Senior Art Exhibition. Artist talk at 3 p.m. and opening reception at 5 p.m.
The artworks presented in this exhibition - ranging from painting and drawing, to photography and digital media, and to ceramics and sculpture, mark the completion of four years at the Denison Studio Art Program for fifteen senior majors. In this last year, they were challenged conceptually through their senior practicum course with their professors, but most importantly, through their interactions with each other. Through critique and discourse, students discovered how different they are from each other. They are all bound in difference. The works in the exhibition speak to a variance of topics, ranging from global and national issues to personal explorations of the self. The works by these fifteen artists are an amalgamation of ideas and concepts that have been birthed through dialogue with each other and the world. It is difficult understanding what fifteen people from all over the world have in common. What cannot be disputed, though, is the way that national and international issues have affected the ways in which each of these artists views themselves, their practices, their relationship with one another, and the earth itself. In an era of political uncertainty and global tensions, they are all comforted by a universal truth.
